When I decided to open a Etsy store it was a way to offer sales, offer supplies and essential oils that I do not sell on my JoAnne Bassett website. The Etsy site with a couple of clicks can put your whole store on sale or just a few items.  My JoAnne Bassett website does not have that capability and I have to manually change all of the coding. After the sale you then have to change all of the prices back.

I opened the Etsy store JoAnne Bassett in 2009 to offer close out sales of product and draw new clients to my store. A new venue to ship worldwide and to be found for handmade, small batch perfume. There were years I did not add any products..sell much of anything …or focus on updates, tags, titles, photos or all of the Etsy SEO and learn the new rules they have.

As the years have gone by the Etsy site has grown with lots of new stores.. new rules… and difficult search engines…Their fees of 10% just to sell a product is not bad but if you sell on offsite ads the add 12% fee to that to make 22% off.  You cannot opt out of offsite ads if you have sold a lot of product. So the total fee of a sale becomes 22% off. Now to draw attention to your store.. or even be found in search I started offering free shipping and or a sale of 20 to 25% off once in a while.  It helps to bring visitors to your store and can motivate people to try your perfumes.  So if you look at all of these fees together 10 + 12+ 20= 42% off.. or at 25% off it becomes 47% off.  Add on free shipping to the US and the profit goes down even more.

Offering free shipping is a Amazon idea that Etsy also copied.  The jury is still out if it is a deciding factor in a purchase or not.  I have tried to keep my shipping the same on both stores.

Etsy has been changing the rules and policies lately that has affected my store. Metaphysical services may not be sold on Etsy. Examples of prohibited metaphysical services include: Items with a metaphysical outcome (e.g. attracting wealth, love, etc.)

I saw how they were removing items from and closing stores that they deemed were claiming a metaphysical outcome.  My natural perfumes have all received Divine and Royal Alchemy and Divine Light downloaded into them.  This postive energy is not a claim..it just is.  Like adding love to your meal you are cooking for loved ones.. it is intention.

Yesterday I began to change and delete some descriptions of my store announcement and my natural perfumes.  Today I again see my products removed for these claims.

My purpose in posting this is please go to my JoAnne Bassett website to read the full descriptions and purchase whenever possible.  The idea of me putting my energetic perfumes on Etsy where they are not valued rubs me the wrong way.  I am not making medical claims with my essential oils or perfumes made with essential oils. Aromatherapy text books have shown research for the last 30 years or more listing the health and emotional benefits of lavender, citrus oils, and many others.  When you list St. John’s essential oil helps with depression. you are not saying it will cure it.. merely that it will help alleviate the symptons.

I have 36 roses growing in pots now.  It is so much fun getting back to growing more roses… of different types.

This year I am also experimenting with growing vegetables from seed in pots also.  There is hard red clay in North Carolina and pots are much easier for now.

There are many flowering trees, red bud trees, bulbs blooming, and forsythia blooms in my neighborhood.  Also the pine pollen is covering everything. Welcome to Spring!
