Why I Like To Create Tinctures

July 24th, 2011 by

This beautiful yellow rose smells absolutely gorgeous.? Its fragrance permeates the air. ? I am not able to buy a yellow rose otto so I grow my own roses and flowers and tincture them in alcohol.? The wonderful rose scented alcohol is a exclusive addition to some of my perfumes.? So grateful to be able to use my organic flowers and plants for my natural perfumes.

My Eau de Parfums Created With Patchouli

June 30th, 2011 by

I have recently created a patchouli perfume for Perfume Pharmer’s project Summer of Patchouli Love.? Looking in my files today I decided to see how many perfumes in my collections contain patchouli.

They are:

Magie D’ Or eau de parfum is a spicy oriental parfum that has lovely citrus notes to give it lift and sparkle just like fine champagne. It has notes of pink pepper, patchouli, cinnamon bark, cistus, clementine, rose otto, jasmine absolute and others.

Sensual Embrace eau de parfum is a musky, sexy fragrance with citrus notes clementine, floral notes of Rose de Mai oil – the May rose of France, jasmine, tuberose, orange blossoms, musky notes of ambrette seed, amber accord, smoky notes of tobacco, sensuous woody notes of smooth vintage Mysore sandalwood, dark patchouli, and others.

Versailles eau de parfum is a gorgeous, sparkling bottle of citrus delight and spices that add a special touch. Men and women love this fantastic fragrance. It has notes of neroli, tangerine, lime essence, frankincense, patchouli, pink pepper tree, cinnamon bark, and others.

Uncorked – a natural perfumers guild joint blogging event

June 1st, 2011 by

Happy Fifth Anniversary Natural Perfumers Guild!

I joined the Guild as a Professional Perfumer in the early days of the Guild.? I felt it was important to be a part of an organization promoting Natural Perfumery. I love creating 100% natural perfumes and I am happy to see the Guild grow and thrive.

I became a certified aromatherapist in 1993 and started my company Bassett Aromatherapy. I created a line of products and did individual blending for clients. My clients who were sensitized to the synthetic department store fragrances wanted me to make them natural fragrances. That is how it began. I took a blending class and was self taught.? The rest is history. 18 years later I am still making Custom Bespoke Perfumes and Natural Perfume Collections.

In 2000 I created Le Voyage – the journey in an eau de toilette and parfum. It became my scent I wore everyday. I bought French perfume bottles for it and made a beautiful box for it in 2001.? I created Reveiller – awaken? in an eau de toilette and parfum and sold them both on the Bassett Aromatherapy website called Aromaworld.com.? That was 11 years ago.? I had other collections but sold them only to my clients and mostly in person.

In 2005 I opened Le Bijou- the jewel, my perfume boutique in La Jolla, California. I created the Royal Collection and the French Collections in 2006 which I still sell online at my website www.JoAnneBassett.com. Limited Edition collections in hand blown glass are a favorite item of mine.? My perfumes are a work of art and I love using the most expensive raw materials I can source.

I use almost all of the blossoms from my yard…roses, grapefruit, lemon, sweet orange, and gardenias. I use them for Custom Bespoke Perfumes and limited edtions mostly. I do use the gardenias in Madame Pompadour. I have created 1,000’s of fragrances for private label, bespoke customs, for special occasions, and limited editions.? I get to play with the oils everyday.

Fresh Gardenia Flowers – A Raw Material

May 30th, 2011 by

I love gardenias.? In San Francisco they sell gardenia corsages on the street corners.? I went to an aromatherapy conference many years ago and wore one.? They stay fragrant all day.

Now that I grow gardenias in my garden I am able to use them in my natural perfumes.? Several varieties offer enough gardenia petals to create the perfect gardenia scent for my 100% natural fragrances.

I pick them in the morning and tincture in alcohol and macerate the blooms.?? Months later I am able to use this tincture or maceration in Madame Pompadour or other fragrances.? It is a favorite raw material for my Custom Bespoke Parfums.

Smell the rich and creamy fragrance of the gardenia blossom ..take in the soft, honey smell of the gardenia.? The synthetic gardenia scents have nothing on this natural scent.? Try the real thing…your nose approves.
