Have a great Summer Solstice.
In June 2011 I created a natural perfume with a Midsummer’s Night Dream theme.

Here is a blog post I created:

Dark Mistress Eau de Parfum, the Night Queen

December 30th, 2011 by

The feeling I had was to create a night perfume…with flowers and attributes of the night. I had ordered an interesting oil named Night Queen – special Indian Jasmine and had not used it. What a strange and inviting smell. In the course of an afternoon I added rhododendron, night queen, peru balsam, rosewood, damask rose oil, neroli, tuberose . . one of my favorite night smells in India or France, vintage jasmine sambac.. another queen of the night, frankincense, yuzu, clove bud, tulsi, frankincense  – dark and for the night, champa that you smell on warm Indian nights, vetiver, violet leaf that wonderful green forest smell, and ylang ylang for some extra romance. With 17 oils this perfume said yes. It will transform you if you allow it. It is an Oriental Woody perfume.

Review from Joseph Sagona. What I love most about Dark Mistress is has a vintage feel and smell, but its very timeless at the same time, even though it has quite a few notes, its very smooth and refined, its very well blended, the notes flow together seamlessly.

Dark Mistress is a very classy, elegant, sophisticated, smoky, bright yet dark, strong, with soft touches of citrus and woody undertones Oriental Woody fragrance, this is unisex and mature, perfect for ages thirty and above. Read more

JoAnne Bassett Perfumes, JoAnne Bassett parfumeur ~ Reine de Nuit eau de parfum.
This smells like an expensive perfume that you could find on the shelf at Lucky Scent in LA. If I didn’t know it was all natural I wouldn’t know it was all natural, understand? Night queen is listed as one of the ingredients of this perfume and isn’t something I am very familiar with. In fact, I don’t think I have ever heard of night queen before. This perfume, according to Ms. Bassett, is based on the night and not on a certain character from the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This definitely isn’t a fairy’s perfume. Not even a little bit. This is a big, loud, sexy perfume. It might belong to Titania if she wasn’t such a fairy herself. The best way to describe this perfume is to say that if Marilyn Monroe, Bette Midler, Madonna and Lady Gaga all got together to make a perfume, then this is what they would come up with. The other ingredients in this perfume include rhododendron, peru balsam, rosewood, damask rose oil, neroli, tuberose, vintage jasmine sambac, frankincense, yuzu, clove bud, tulsi, frankincense noir, champa, vetiver, violet leaf and ylang-ylang. Smells really great on me, my girl and our roommates. Scary sexy. Here is the link for the review: http://leparfumeurrebelle.blogspot.com/2011/06/midsummer-nights-dream-perfume-event.html

Georgette Villareal – Scent Of The Day: Dark Mistress by JoAnne Bassett. JoAnne has a unique talent to create fragrances that capture the nostalgic beauty, sophistication and elegance of classic scents. This fragrance was inspired by the mystical beauty of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the intrigue of the night. It is a gorgeous floral, rich with exquisite jasmine, tuberose, and rosewood. It has a spicy depth of frankincense and cloves, and a lush greenness with violet leaf. It feels timeless, beautiful and mysterious. I feel elegant and beautiful wearing this scent. I love this sample!!
