Joy In January – A Natural Perfumers Guild Project – 1 of 3
January 17th, 2012 by JoAnne BassettSAD is a term that means Seasonal Affective Disorder.? To sum it up…we need more sunlight to be happy.? When we do not receive enough sunlight or light during the long winter months we can sometimes become depressed or unhappy.
In October 1989 I moved from Minnesota to the Seattle area.? What a shock that winter was!? Living in Minnesota for most of my life I came to know that winter there is cold and clear …for the most part…It can be below zero with the sun shining bright.? In the Seattle area…it does not often get very cold with snow so it is a milder winter weather.? What I was not prepared for were countless days of drizzle, rain, wind, and grey skies with a moderate temperature.? The constant grey and overcast all year long with rain can really get to you after a while.
In 1993 I started Bassett Aromatherapy and quickly learned that there are many depressed people in Seattle.? Being an aromatherapist I had first hand experience of this.? What I found that people enjoyed were the citrus scents.? I sell essential oils of lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, sweet orange, mandarin, and other citrus to use to combat this depression. Putting lemon oil in a diffuser works, or in an aromatherapy blend, or easy enough in a natural perfume.
My natural perfumes have citrus top notes that act like a diffuser.? You spray on Le Voyage eau de toilette with a lovely citrus top note and you feel joyful and more happy.? It is like “liquid sunshine”.? It really is that easy to feel better!
Please leave a comment about the citrus oil you most love and you will be entered to win a sample of Le Voyage eau de toilette.
There are other natural perfumers blogging on SAD with prizes offered each day.? Please check out the other blogs.
